Investment reports
Investments includes four report types:
- Positions: Displays all current holdings for each account. Use Allocation when you want the same holdings combined.
- Allocation: Displays all current holdings with matching holdings combined. Use Positions when you want matching holdings separated by account.
- Performance: Displays equity holdings while excluding Fixed Income and Cash. It shows price performance over the selected period. Select the date header to change the range, such as Past Week, This Month, or This Year.
- Fixed Income: Displays fixed-income holdings, including CDs and bonds, and attempts to extract maturity dates and annual income from their descriptions.
Positions and Allocation
Use Positions and Allocation for a complete portfolio view and to configure allocation targets. Positions keeps matching holdings separated by account, while Allocation combines matching holdings. The complete gain or loss appears on the right side of the report.
Investments can be grouped in several ways so you can review the same holdings from different perspectives. The Account Group filter can also be applied to any of these views.
Performance
Use Performance to review how equity holdings changed over a selected period.
Performance is based on the holding’s price change during the selected period. It is not based on when you purchased the holding or on your cost basis. To calculate performance using your purchase history and cost basis, you would need to use Monarch’s Plus option and maintain Tax Lots. The performance for the selected period appears on the right side of the report.
Fixed Income
Use Fixed Income to review fixed-income holdings, including gain or loss and extracted maturity dates.
Maturity dates are parsed from the holding text and are best-effort estimates. If a maturity date is missing or incorrect, report the issue to me—not Monarch—because the maturity-date parsing is handled by MM-Tweaks.
How portfolio balances and holdings are calculated
MM-Tweaks uses the portfolio information returned by Monarch and displays the holdings as provided.
If a holding is missing, common reasons include:
- The financial institution did not return the holding.
- The holding is not identified as a public or security holding.
- The account type, such as a 529 account, is handled differently by the institution’s data feed.
When holdings are present, MM-Tweaks creates a Cash / Money Market line calculated as:
Account Balance − Sum of Holding Values
If you see – (BALANCE ONLY), the financial institution is not sending individual holding data to Monarch. Instead, the institution is reporting the account’s entire balance as one entry without a ticker. MM-Tweaks therefore displays one (Balance Only) entry for that account. You can disable the creation of Cash / Money Market and Balance Only entries in Investments Settings.
Investments reports are driven entirely by the holdings returned from Monarch’s API. MM-Tweaks cannot create, modify, or add a holding that the source does not provide. If a public holding should appear but is missing, contact Monarch support. You can also add a manual holding to the account in Monarch to move some or all of a Balance Only amount to a specific holding.
Stock charts and allocation charts
Select the > on the far right of an individual investment holding to open its detailed view and stock chart.
Select the > on the far right of a Total or Group row to open its summary or allocation view.
Investment holding settings
Open Reports → Investments, select the > on the far right of an equity holding, and then select Edit… in the holding side panel to open its MM-Tweaks options.
Holding Category override
Assign a category by ticker or for every holding in an account. A category can represent Sector, Asset Class, Objective, Index Strategy, Bond Type, or another classification that fits your portfolio.
For example, a stock can be assigned to a sector such as Communications. If you apply a category override to all holdings in an account, any uncategorized or newly added ticker appears in the Stock category. This makes missing classifications and new holdings easier to identify.
Allocation targets and notes
Set allocation targets by Institution, Account, Account Subtype, Holding Type, or Category. Select the > on the Total row at the top of the report grid, then select Edit… in the upper-right corner of the side panel.
The example below uses Sector as the allocation method, but you can create a custom allocation structure that fits your portfolio, such as Asset Class, Sector, Risk, Managed/Unmanaged, or Tax-Deferred.
Allocation targets are stored at two levels:
- By the selected breakdown: Institution, Account, Account Subtype, Holding Type, or Category.
- By all accounts or by a selected Account Group.
Positions and Allocation use the same target information.
- Targets do not need to total 100%. For example, you can set a 70% Fixed Income target and leave the remaining allocation unspecified.
- Targets can be configured only from Positions and Allocation. Performance and Fixed Income do not display every holding or all uninvested cash, so they are not reliable sources for complete portfolio targets.
Investments settings
Select the gear icon to open settings specific to Investments. These settings control how investment holdings, calculated cash, Balance Only entries, charts, targets, and report details are displayed.
Stock/ETF/Mutual Fund Lookup links the currently selected holding to your preferred analysis website. Enter the website’s URL in Investments settings and use (ticker) wherever the ticker symbol should appear. MM-Tweaks replaces (ticker) with the selected symbol when opening the link.
